Members may find a "foreign fee transaction" on their credit card statement for their iTravex stay.
Although iTravex processes reservation fees in USD, it is done through the Canadian institutional banking system because iTravex is a Canadian based company. Your credit card company may apply an addition cost for this transaction as a result. This is common for most Visa and Mastercard providers; however there are cards such as Capital One which do not charge these fees. They are "card company specific".
Virtually every credit card assesses an international transaction fee for purchases done outside the 50 states (and could include U.S. territories like Puerto Rico and the U. S. Virgin Islands.) Visa and MasterCard charge a 1% processing fee and most card-issuing banks add additional fees as well (on top of the 1% fee levied by MasterCard/Visa).
The fee is generally a percentage of the U.S. Dollar value of the transaction.
iTravex does not implement this charge---it is your credit card company. Please contact your issuing company should you have any questions.
